My Fee Structure & Terms

General principles behind the fees

For the services offered on this website, I intend to keep the fees fair, reasonable, and flexible. If you become a client, then everything we do together will become a partnership in which you and I jointly share responsibility.

You will agree to provide me with all the information and resources I'll need to do the best possible job for you. In return, I will provide provide you with excellent quality in professional communication services and advice.

A vital element in this partnership is the balance between what I need to be paid and what my client can afford to pay. Because clients may have differing financial situations, I plan to be adapable in the amounts and ways that I may be paid.

The sliding scale

Imagine a music concert or other community function where there is a set admission price at the door, but the presenters have allowed for a sliding scale that allows individuals and families with less income to also attend. Many will pay the full admission, but some may be admitted for lesser amounts or even, in certain cases, for free. This is the principle upon which fees for the services offered here will be based.

As a working artist whose friends and associates are mostly also working artists, I understand that artists and others within the artistic community may often have limited or even nonexistent budgets. The musician, the painter, the actor, the writer still is expected to produce excellent products and services and is often held to a higher standard than most in other fields. For these artists, small arts businesses, and arts organizations, I am pleased to apply the sliding scale. We can discuss what you want to accomplish, what needs to be done to accomplish it, and your available budget, then set fees accordingly.

Clearly, if you are a highly successful artist or have an excellent income or some other source of ready funds or if you are a profitable corporation, then I will expect that the full rates will apply. Here again, we can meet to discuss what is needed and what budget is available and then proceed from there. Everything is negotiable.

The basis for fees and conditions

My fees and conditions of payment may vary depending on the nature and extent of the project, materials required, whether additional persons or services will be required, necessity to hire outside contractors, and other factors.

While my fees may be based on hourly rates for my own work plus any additional costs, my preference is to work with the client to determine a flat rate for the entire project before beginning and to bill accordingly. The fee for any given project will be determined on an individual basis following discussion with the client.

Responsibility for expenses

All expenses related to a project will be paid for by the client at cost. Examples of expenses include any products or supplies required, telephone and other communication fees, research costs (copying, mailing, etc.), exceptional travel costs, and any additional persons or services who may be required to complete the project.

I may at my discretion charge a management fee for my time spent supervising or otherwise working with any additional persons or services who may be required. Depending on the needs of the client, I can pay these parties and then bill the client or I can have them bill the client direct.

The Road Show.

I can also be available as a speaker, lecturer, or trainer. My per diem for lectures, conferences, courses, and seminars may vary from my standard hourly rates and may or may not have built in an allowance for expenses including travel and accommodation. In this, as in all things, everything is negotiable. Enquire.

Currency

All fees will be billed in Canadian or U.S. dollars, whichever may be most appropriate and relevant.

Payment Method

Payment can be made in person using cash, cheque (no service until cleared) or money order; through the mail using cheque (no service until cleared) or money order; or online through PayPal (including major credit cards).

Terms of Payment

Terms are cash, 10 days net, then 1.5% per month charged on past due accounts. Most projects will be billed incrementally as predetermined stages toward completion are reached (example of stages: deposit, research & development, rough draught, final draught, project completion). Smaller projects may be billed entirely in advance.

Agreement

Once we do agree to work together on your project, or on any portion of your project, our agreement will include not just what we may discuss together but also any and all relevant elements of the discussion above.

First meeting is free

To arrange a first meeting to discuss your project at no charge, please contact me anytime by e-mail at or by telephone at (613) 546-5114.
