Our Candid Photography

What is Candid Photography?

Unlike a studio photograph, a candid photograph is one taken spontaneously and with a minimum of pre-planning, usually none. With the right photographer behind the camera, candid photographs can be quite dramatic and powerful. They can often bring a greater sense of depth and realism to the image of the person or event photographed.

We offer a very specialized photography service. We shoot only candid images, taken on the spot in available light with minimal formal setup. It's all digital, so we can shoot a lot of pictures and still keep our clients' costs down. The resulting photographs can create very effective images for CD inserts, book covers, press kits, and other marketing materials.

Here are a few examples of situations where creative candid images taken by a professional photographer may be most appropriate for your needs.

  • live music concert
  • bar gig
  • live theatre
  • CD release party
  • book release party or book signing
  • literary reading (poetry, novel)
  • spontaneous image for model portfolio
  • creative images for CD insert
  • creative images for book cover
  • creative image for artist bio
  • archival record of an event
  • content for artist website or blog

As you consider the various elements of your own art and business, you may be able to think of many other possibilities where candid photography can help enhance your image.

Talk to us about the photographic potential of your next project or gig. We'll be happy to discuss your needs and help you design a plan to suit your budget. Telephone Bob at (613) 546-5114 or send an e-mail to .

    Bob MacKenzie

Bob has been around photography all his life. His father is a professional photographer and his mother a talented photo-colourist. His father gave him a Kodak Brownie camera at around five years of age and he's been taking pictures ever since. Growing up in a professional studio, Bob early learned the basics of photography and the elements that go into a successful image. As well as his father, Bob's uncle (now deceased), his cousin, and his daughter are all professional photographers.

    Annie MacKenzie

Coming from a family of artists and photographers, Annie comes naturally to the task of creating an image that tells its own story. At only twenty years of age, Annie has a natural aptitude with the camera and an excellent sense of composition and framing. More important, she manages to find the life in her subject and retain it in the image she creates. Although relatively new to the field, Annie has artistic skills and perception beyond her years.
