Here, Jacob, here is your ladder:
Here are the steps of soft thighs,
Here the balustrade of bodies:
Here is your ladder to heaven -
In the flesh, so to speak - here.
Here is your ladder to heaven,
Finished in hyper-renaissance flesh
Tones that bespeak heaven, Jacob -
Jacob! Slide down the bannister,
Come up again,
Slip to the ball at the bottom,
Come up again -
Remember ladders, Jacob? Ladders:
Why make such elaborate erections
If not to climb, if not to climb?
Come up to heaven, Jacob.
